The Right Tech Stack For You

A tech stack is like a giant digital sandwich crafted perfectly to be later consumed by your audience. Tech stacks are pretty simple to understand. You’ve got your front-end tech that consists of your buttons, menus, or pictures; your back-end tech that consists of all the logic that makes up your front-end; and then your database that contains user info, passwords, and other fun stuff like that.

Seeing the tech stacks that run your life

Every website, app, program, and piece of software you use works off a tech stack. A complex yet simple-to-understand system that holds our lives together without us knowing. We all have little routines and rituals we follow day-to-day so this should be simple enough to understand.

The social media we use every day uses very intensive tech structures. Every piece has a different role, and without one another may not be able to function. Coding like Java and HTML is often used to hold up the user interface, Python is often used to set up spam detection, and at the end of it, a tool like Firebase might be used to trigger push notifications. These are only a few examples of what would be a huge working mechanism used to keep a social media platform running.

What do you need in your technology stack? That all depends on the purpose of your application and what you plan to do with it later on. A tech stack used to run a mobile app will be completely different from one used to build a website. Even between websites, tech stacks will differ greatly. It’s all about keeping your tech open to growth and making sure it all suits your needs.

How to Find The ‘Best Tech Stack’

  • Reliability: Not all technology is created equal. Look at reviews and recommendations from other business owners like you. Is the software reliable, or is it going to stop working without warning when you need it most?
  • Customer Service: The easiest way to determine whether the platform has good customer service is to just call them. If someone picks up, that’s a great sign! When problems come up, you won’t need to worry because you’ll have someone who can help you navigate the issues with your application. Preferably, you want to avoid software that might cause issues entirely.
  • Ability to Grow: Your business might be small right now, but think about where you want your business to be in a few years. Do you want it to look the same as it does now? Of course not. You want to grow! Make sure the platform is easy for you to expand so you don’t need to switch to another platform later. This will save you time and help you focus more on the design of your website instead of worrying about whether you can even keep using it.
  • Easy Migration: In the case that you do need to switch platforms, or maybe you need to switch to something else right now, look for technology that offers easy migration. A lot of the bigger software companies make it easy to move all your data over these days. You want to make it easy without having to enter in a bunch of data yourself.
  • User Friendliness: Technology can get complicated – fast. Regardless, there’s going to be a little bit of a learning curve when you use a new platform. So, look for something that you feel confident you would enjoy learning about. Also, check to see if the company has tutorials on how to use the platform. This way, you’ll know that the company cares about their user’s experience.
  • Cost of Investment: Running a business can get pricey sometimes, but you need to be prepared for that, as well as the time and stress it may cost you. If it looks too good to be true, maybe they don’t have good customer service, or they’re not reliable. Weigh what you are willing to sacrifice and always look at the long-term effects of your decisions before you make them.

What Tech Stack is Best?

The best tech stack is the one that best suits your needs and costs you the least money. Building a tech stack is a daunting task for even the best web developers. It takes a lot of experience, research, and sometimes trial and error to find the best digital sandwich to feed your consumers. It’s a lot better to research professionals (arguably more cost-effective) than it is to add this hassle of a task to your plate.
